We help unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens in the mid-Dorset area by taking them in and providing loving foster homes until they can be rehomed. Unfortunately the economic climate means more families than ever are having to give up their loved pets so the need for our help has never been greater, and so far in 2011 we have cared for over 200 animals. We are all volunteers and any funds we raise go directly towards the welfare of the cats in our care.

YCT in Bournemouth provides support and free activity holidays every year for over 250 teenagers and young adults (aged 14 to 30) with cancer. Being told you have cancer during these formative years is devastating, when everyone else seems to be moving on with their lives. Holiday activities include horse riding, water sports and dry slope skiing. £500 would pay for two groups of eight young cancer patients to go horse riding together in the New Forest and for another two groups to enjoy a day’s sailing in the Solent.

One in nine young people under 16 run away each year; and if this develops into a regular event can lead to complex problems. ReRun Dorset Runaways Service provides outreach support to young people and their families to help them work things out so that young people stay safe and healthy. Should we win we would use the funds to buy essential food, toiletries and clothes for young people who run away from home and basic start-up equipment for those living on their own for the first time.
Terms and conditions
You are welcome to encourage as many friends and supporters as you can drum up to visit our website to vote, but remember, each person may only vote once. Voting will close at 5pm on Wednesday 29th February and the winning good cause will receive £500 from the NISA MADL charity. Entrants and winners will be publicised. Every three months three new local good causes will be picked for a head to head vote on our website. If you wish to nominate a local good cause, please write to Adam Vincent, Dike & Son Store Manager, including a brief description of the project, contact details and what the money would be spent on. Good luck from all the team at Dike’s!
