Deli & fresh food
The delicatessen counter
Where to start? It’s a feast, starting with large juicy olives and ending up with a fantastic selection of cheeses, including local Barbers’ 1833 Cheddar and Dorset Blue Vinny, and some wonderfully smelly ones such as Stinking Bishop and Delamere goats’ cheese. We also stock Manchego from Spain,
a semi-firm, full flavoured cheese made from sheep's milk.
Inbetween are our fresh pies and quiches– choose from a mouth-watering Spinach and Feta Pie or a Steak and Stilton Slice. For pudding lovers, try our traditional Dorset Apple Cake or let your taste buds wander with a slice of Jamaican Lemon Crunch Cake.
Fresh meat and fish
We are delighted to welcome Else's Butchers to the the fresh meat counter in store. They bring you top-quality local beef, pork and lamb as well as poultry and game in season. Pre-packed meat is also available for customers in a hurry.
On the fish counter you’ll find a huge selection of Martyn Else's locally sourced fresh fish including sea bass and monkfish, as well as staples such as cod fillets and natural smoked haddock. His seafood range includes mussels, squid, dressed crab, depending on what’s seasonally available and fresh.
The bakery
We bake a lot of our bread daily on the premises. Choose from bloomers, baguettes, crusty rolls, as well as organic brown and white loaves. We are also baking croissants and doughnuts in-store now. Crabb’s Bakery’s sunflower loaf is a best-seller.
Mortimers bakery delivers fresh every day, bringing us lardy cakes, fruit scones Chelsea buns, novelty fancy cakes, and the very popular fresh cream cakes. Other local contributions come from Moores (Dorset knob biscuits), Fudges (sweet and savoury biscuits) and Mandy Sweet (home-made double chocolate cheesecake, scrummy carrot cake, coffee and walnut cake as well as her delicious pecan pie and treacle tart) and Taste's delicious cakes. Stalbridge-based Oh So Sweet produce magnificent cupcakes and scones for our cafe.
Fruit and vegetables
Welcome to Fiddleford Mushrooms! We can now say proudly that our mushrooms are very locally sourced just the other side of Sturminster Newton - and extremely good they are too.
We offer a huge range of fruit and vegetables, fresh salads and fresh herbs, including growing herbs.
We are quite pleased to be able to offer sometimes difficult to get stuff, such as chicory, fennel bulbs, aubergines, lemongrass, fresh organic watercress.
We try and source as much as possible locally, when seasonally available.
We have a good range of seasonal organic produce as well.
