Richard is our wine manager and he has great product knowledge on wines and ales, as well as on his pet subject, ciders. His expertise in the field of cider probably stems more from his enjoyment of it (well, someone has to test them).

ALES AND CIDERS

As an independent retailer we are in a great position to deal directly with some fantastic local suppliers of both ales and ciders.Dorset Piddle Brewery of Piddlehinton currently supplies us with Piddle in a Bottle and Jimmy Riddle. Other equally quirky named ales are in the pipeline, so to speak.

We also have our own very popular house ale ‘Williams Tipple’ named after William Dike’s favourite brew, made for us by Cotleigh brewery of Wiveliscombe in Somerset.

Hall & Woodhouse is noted for its Organic Stinger – curiously made of stinging nettles hand-picked in Dorset – “the cricket team like it,” Andy says.

We have a massive selection of ales from good old Speckled Hen to Banana Bread Beer, which yes indeed, does have a slight taste of bananas.

As with ales we also stock some great local ciders and some not so local.

Sheppy’s is an award-winning cider producer offering such ciders as Farmers Harvest which celebrates 100 years of the NFU, sweet honey-flavoured cider and traditional farmers’ draught scrumpy sold in large plastic flagons.

We also stock Westons Stowford Press vintage and premium organic ciders, Lyme Bay Winery’s Jack Ratt Scrumpy and Vintage Cider, and The Orchard Pig’s medium and dry table cider.

All are perfect for that summer barbecue, or put together a selection in one of our sturdy jute Dike’s bags to make a really thoughtful gift that’ll go down a storm. To really appreciate our vast collection of ales and ciders you really do need to drop in and pay us a visit.
